COVID-19 UPDATE June 5, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members,

We are writing to provide you an update on the status of our progress at Leewood Healthcare Center. With the support of the Fairfax County Health Department and Virginia National Guard we have been provided tools and resources that have aided in our journey to recovery.

This week we initiated a campus-wide, two-phase testing strategy beginning with in-house testing on Monday June 1st and again on Wednesday June 3rd through the National Guard. We are pleased to be the first facility in Fairfax County to receive the point of prevalence testing administered by the National Guard. The goal of this multi-tiered testing is to identify any recoveries as well as any new infections. A recovery is identified by two (2) negative nasopharyngeal tests greater than twenty-four (24) hours apart.

As of this afternoon, the results of the mass staff testing returned nine (9) asymptomatic staff members as positive. These staff members will self-quarantine at home until able to return to work per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance. Twenty-three (23) residents remain positive for COVID-19. Two new cases were identified this week in our residents.

With over 20 newly recovered residents, and more expected soon, we have been able to downsize to one (1) COVID designated area on the Cardinal Unit. The logistics of resident room moves can be concerning to families and we commit to making your loved one as comfortable as possible during this transition.
